Optometry Residency Program Goals
-
To attract a large, diverse, well-qualified applicant pool.
-
To improve the resident’s clinical knowledge in primary eye care, as well as the diagnosis and management of anterior segment and posterior segment disorders as well as ocular manifestations of systemic diseases.
-
To develop the resident’s ability to function as a member of a health care team through participation in a multidisciplinary healthcare system which provides the resident with the opportunity to work with patients exhibiting multiple medical conditions.

To increase the resident’s ophthalmic knowledge base and enhance their ability to apply it clinically.

To develop and enhance the resident's advanced diagnostic skills through the use of gonioscopy, automated perimetry, scleral depression, ocular photography, corneal pachymetry, ultrasonography, fluorescein angiography, ocular coherence tomography and other diagnostic instrumentation.

To enhance the resident’s knowledge of advanced eye care procedures, low vision examinations, specialty contact lenses and the care of pre/post-operative patients.

To develop and improve the resident’s scholarly activity skills, including those required for lecturing and publication.

To provide the resident with the necessary academic knowledge and clinical skills to have the option to pursue a career within academia, clinical education, or patient care.

To establish and maintain an academic affiliation with a college of optometry while establishing and maintaining accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Optometric Education (ACOE) of the American Optometric Association.
