Viera VA Outpatient Clinic Offers Grant-Funded Yoga and Meditation for Women Veterans

August 5, 2009

The VA Outpatient Clinic in Viera will offer free gentle yoga and iRest meditation classes for women Veterans beginning Sept. 8.  Funded by a national grant, both classes will run in 10-week sessions through early next year.  Pre-registration is required, with yoga offered on Tuesdays and iRest meditation offered on Thursdays.

Emily Hain, certified yoga and iRest instructor, will be instructing the classes.  Emily has previous experience teaching yoga in hospital wellness and hospice programs, working with the disabled and Veteran support groups.

The Women Veteran’s Strategic Health Care Group in Washington awarded the grant to the Viera VA Outpatient Clinic.  Its mission is to ensure that all women Veterans experience timely, equitable, high quality and comprehensive health care in a sensitive and safe environment.  The group awarded funds to clinics nationwide that submitted projects that would improve the quality of care for women Veterans.

The classes will be held from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. in room D211 of the clinic, which is located at 2900 Veterans Way, Viera 32940. Women are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. The clinic will provide yoga mats for all participants.
