Nothing can stand in the way of VA care- Not even a pandemic outbreak. Coupled with drive and technology, the Orlando VA Healthcare System has remained on-call and able to provide care.

Healthcare has taken an unpredictable turn, yet the Podiatry Service has taken it by the reins.

With options comes optimization. The team has been able to run full throttle with the use of VA telehealth options like VA Video Connect (VVC). The virtual modalities open doors for Veterans to continue to receive the care they deserve.

By phone or video, and with a push of a button, Veterans enter a virtual medical appointment. This capability has streamlined what has become the new way of healthcare.

With the demand of VVC Podiatry elevating up to 50%, Veterans have continued to receive answers to their podiatry questions in a comfortable environment of their choosing.

With change comes adaptation, and Dr. Asma Khan has not allowed this new virtual platform to suspend or decrease her care. With this new way of healthcare, she has discovered Veterans diving deeper into their health.

She says, “My job has become more about listening to concerns and providing guidance. While using VVC, I have seen the change of Veterans getting things done now more than ever, whether it is stretching or icing. They are more active in their health.”

As Dr. Khan would do in person, she visualizes wounds, discusses symptoms and provides solutions simply through a telephone line or device screen.

As a first time VVC user, Joshua Lenart, U.S. Marines Corps Veteran, has discovered the ease and benefits that come with the application. He takes a break during work to virtually meet with Dr. Khan in the comfort of his car.

He says, “The nice part about VVC is I am going to hang up and walk right back into work. I do not have to travel or spend money on gas. VVC is saving me time and I am all about that.”

The ease of VVC has not only attracted Mr. Lenart in the current times, but beyond this time. He plans to continue using VVC throughout his future healthcare.

Visiting your doctor in person has become a time of the past ever since the pandemic outbreak sparked throughout the nation.

Not only will VVC save time, it saves risk of exposure and keeps Veterans safer than ever. If Mr. Lenart, a once traditional healthcare Veteran, who is now a VVC savvy Veteran, can easily transition - so can you!
