Orlando VA Healthcare System
Eye Clinic - Ophthalmology/Optometry
The Ophthalmology/Optometry Clinic provides eye care services to all Veterans per VA regulations on a consultative basis.
Routine eye consults are generated by a patient’s primary care provider or other staff provider and sent to the eye clinic.
A staff ophthalmologist or optometrist reviews each consult and assigns them to either an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Any consult other than for routine care (including urgent and emergent consults) requires direct provider to provider communication.
Services provided by the eye clinic include:
- Complete eye examinations
- Ophthalmic surgical procedures
- Cryotheerapy treatments
- Laser treatments
- Treatment of medical conditions of the eye
- Spectacle correction
- Low vision services
- Visual field testing
- Ophthalmic photography
- Fluorescein angiography
- A and B Scan ultrasonography
A visual impairment services (VIS) program is available to those Veterans who qualify. The ophthalmology/optometry providers examine and treat these Veterans with administrative assistance from the VIS coordinator. Referrals for hospitalization will be accomplished between the ophthalmologist at the Orlando VA Medical Center and another VA facility or civilian hospital as appropriate.
